Fieldstone Field Trip Agenda
The field trip begins at the Grape Arbor where the children are
seated at picnic tables and introduce to the Fieldstone Orchard. We show
them the different apples, the shapes, sizes, and color, then explain how
to pick them.
A walk in to the orchard comparing the 7-year-old apple trees to
the chrildren's age, then a visit with the Johnny Appleseed Shrine and the authentic
Johnny Appleseed tree that we planted last year.
Each child will be allowed to pick an apple and place it into the
picking bag.|
In the Packing Room apples that we have picked are placed on a
conveyor where they are showered, brushed clean, sorted into size and
graded. Thy are then moved into the cooler where they sleep until they're sold or made
into cider.
Next the Tasting Room, to taste the apples we have picked, and
compare their taste to other apples. There will be a toast with cider (*),
and the children ask to keep the paper cups for later use.
In the Processing Building those apples we picked that are left
over from the tasting, will be processed into cider. Pulp from the
processing is given to the teacher to take back to the class room, where
they will find seeds to be planted in the paper cup. (We
will provide the teacher with the cups, seed-pulp and a bag of dirt, to
accomplish this planting.)
Each child will receive a Johnny Appleseed picture to color
and on the back side for the parents is a collection of Nancy's Favorite
Apple Recipes. (See below)
Reservation must be made for the Field Trip.
We ask for a ratio of one adult to 4 children
Cider processing is on Thursday

We have toilet facilities. There is no fee for the tour, we only ask for
your support and you help us spread the word?
(*) The toast "Wassailing", as to one's health, is a
tradition began as a winter ceremony in which apple trees are dashed with
cider to ensure a fruitful harvest.
